MCS STEWARDSHIP

CCA MCS flagship stewardship incorporates basic etiquette concepts, site recommendations for visitors and climbers, parking area factors, and some interrelational communication with this regions agencies and business entities.

Through the CCA this unique tiered stewardship methodology provides general guidelines, direct channel steward initiated resolutions to various present crag needs, and provides to our stewards valued constructive recomendations or solutions as future issues are encountered for the rock climbing resource.

ALLIANCE
The CCA MCS site stewards provide key qualitative expertise and input to the organization while overseeing various MCS challenges from season to season. The CCA goal is to help coordinate with our stewards, encouraging their efforts as a key contact point with various local businesses and other entities.

MORATORIUM

The MCS site stewards, in an effort to attain a positive future outlook, had unanimously adopted a moratorium on new route bolting at the crag (reviewed annually). Exceptions typically are steward repair projects, and other factors. The climbing crag development team carefully refined the entire crag climbing routes system and at the end of that multi-year adventure the stewardship team fully understood all the good reasons the effort was done. They really had reached the end of carefully crafted route bolting at MCS. This wise use limitation process now helps to keep the presently existing rock climbing routes and the overall MCS scenic values in long-term qualitative good-standing values, and promotes a strong legacy future climbing generations can continue to enjoy at this unique backcountry forested crag.

A moratoria ideal is to limit the risk of:
- overbolting of routes
- loss of the existing routes natural flow and distinction
- 1-2 bolt variations
- linkups between existing routes
- making squeeze jobs
MCS crag has plenty of slab routes today. Let's keep the vision clear.

INVOLVE
Be involved with the team effort as we focus on basic awareness issues for MCS crag, such as road condition issues, climbers approach path issues, winter avalanche factors, etc. Through various donated efforts, such as time and interest in the MCS site stewardship process, we continue to keep this back woods treasure available to all rock climbers for many generations.
